Queer, Disabled & HIV-Positive in Gaza: One Man's Fight to Survive

  • Millennium Film Workshop 167 Wilson Avenue Brooklyn, New York, 11237 United States (map)

Join Visual AIDS, The Filmmakers’ Cooperative, and Millennium for a screening of the documentary: Queer, Disabled, & HIV-Positive in Gaza: One Man’s Fight to Survive. In the documentary, journalist Afeef Nessouli (@afeefness) shares the story of ES and his daily challenges in Gaza to secure healthcare amidst the ongoing genocide.

Before the genocide, ES was one of about 40 people with HIV in Gaza. As the violence worsened, so too did ES’s health. “My doctor told me that the antiretrovirals have been consumed completely and there is nothing left in store,” ES tells Nessouli, using a pseudonym to avoid community stigma and targeting by the Israeli authorities.

After the screening, Nessouli will join Blake Paskal, Visual AIDS’ Programs Director, in a conversation about reporting on ES’s story and the larger fight for queer Arab sovereignty and an end to genocide.

The screening is also a fundraiser for ES, who is attempting to move to Cairo to attain adequate healthcare. Tickets are $5-10 and go towards ES’s fundraiser. You can get tickets and also make a larger donation at the link.
